Great to be underway finally with the extension. It'll be a simple timber frame but complicated by detailing of the existing garage interface. JCB's 8008 has made light work of the excavations and clearance for what may one day be a garden. Massive footings required by Building Control will be handy in a few years time when we decide to build a three storey house on top.

Today saw the installation of the Fakro triple-glazed rooflight (FTT_U6) above the stairway and first floor landing. Took a bit longer than usual cutting through 400mm of insulation, but finished while the sun was still shining.
With millimetres to spare, Paul has been squeezed into the loft. He’s now hung on the wall and looks rather fine surrounded by his shiny attenuators and ductwork. Still to be adjusted and insulated. Installation was simplified by neat Lindab Safe system.
Because of the thickness of insulation going onto the existing ground floor slab we intend to expose the first floor joists to maintain a sense of height (actually around 2240 to joists). Today we cleaned up the joists with some fine grit blasting by Blast It and very fine they look too. The blasting removes the softer summer wood leaving a more textured appearance due to the raised harder winter grain.
Lovely honey colour - temptation not to paint is strong. Ramping up the reflectance with a splash of white paint will probably win though. |
